I have just bought a lovely old house and cannot wait to get to work on it. The first major thing we have to sort out is the drywall repair and to replace some roof tiles. Once that has been done then we will be able to concentrate on the inside. Most things are pretty good but just in need of updating and so I am going to have lots of fun deciding what period features to keep and which to update. I have made one big decision and that is to go with solid wood flooring. I have had different types of flooring in various houses and feel that some exotic hardwood floors would be in keeping of the period of the house and the opulence suits the style of the house. It is also nice to put in something that will last well as it will be very difficult and expensive to change once the furniture is in and we are actually living in the space. I have had great fun deciding on themes for different room, colour schemes, fabrics and things like that. As I have a limited budget, I have decided to make it liveable by changing the floors and then I will work on each room at a time, spending as much as I need and then if I have to wait and save up for the next one, I will do. We have several reception rooms and spare bedrooms so we should easily be able to live in part of the house while we are doing up the other parts. I have decided to tackle the hallway and stairs first as that is normally the hardest and most daunting to decorate and hopefully once that is done, the rest will be easier.
